S008-FRANCIA PROTESTA PARIS COSTE DE LA VIDA

07 de noviembre 2026 - 18:49

París (Francia)

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Paris' Place de la Republique square on Saturday (November 7), demonstrating to music played by an orchestra and cheering while holding placards against the high cost of living and in support of the student-led protest movement.

Saturday's protest marked the fourth consecutive weekend demonstration in the French capital, but seemed smaller than previous demonstrations, including a nationwide day of protests and strikes on Thursday (November 5) that saw at least 600,000 people take to the streets across France.

"It's important to continue until we are heard, because the longer this lasts, the more it will allow us to show the importance of all that we are trying to say. So we will not stop until we win," protester Flora Tavernier said.

Police maintained heavy presence across the country on Saturday, with 70,000 officers deployed in demonstrations in the country.

Unions and other protest organisers have called for a new day of protests on Tuesday (November 10).

"And when things go bad, we need to not condemn what's going bad. We need to ask the question, why are these kids so angry that they can riot like that? It doesn't just happen. They have no response from the government. And France was such a wonderful place, our social rights, our hospitals, our schools were an example for the world. And in the last 20 years, it's been going down, and I don't know what's going to happen. I'm worried for the future, not for me anymore."
