Passengers at Brussels' international airport waited for information about flight delays and disruptions on Saturday (September 20) after a cyberattack at a service provider for check-in and boarding systems has disrupted operations at several major European airports.

Airport spokesperson Ariane Goossens told broadcaster RTL check-in and boarding was being done manually until a solution was found, and so far 10 flights had been cancelled and 17 delayed by more than an hour.

Collins Aerospace, which provides check-in and boarding systems for several airlines across multiple airports globally, is experiencing a technical issue that may cause delays for departing passengers, London's Heathrow Airport said, having warned of delays.

RTX, Collins Aerospace's parent, said it had become aware of a "cyber-related disruption" to its software in select airports, without naming them.

"The impact is limited to electronic customer check-in and baggage drop and can be mitigated with manual check-in operations," the company said in an e-mailed statement, adding that it was working to fix the issue as quickly as possible.

This is impacting Brussels Airport but also other European airports. What we're seeing is that this morning there hasn't been a solution yet, so very concretely this means that passenger boarding and check-in is done manually, so it takes longer, and that's why some flights are cancelled or delayed this morning."
