STORY: Footage from Syria's Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management on Thursday (October 29) showed vehicles navigating a flooded, partially damaged road in Deir ez-Zor governorate, where floodwaters poured over the roadway.

Reuters verified the location from the aerial shots from the road and terrain, which matched the archive and satellite imagery from the road connecting Tadmur and Deir ez-Zor. The date was confirmed by reports from the Emergency and Disaster Management Minister, who said the rescue operations had been carried out in the flooded area on October 29. The state news agency SANA reported the floods damaged roads and telecommunications infrastructure in Deir al-Zor governorate. No old results were found posted online before October 29.

Seven people, including five children, have died and seven others were injured after torrential rains triggered flash floods in eastern Syria, authorities said on Friday.

Flooding has hit the eastern provinces of Raqqa, Deir al-Zor and Hasakah, as well as parts of Aleppo, damaging infrastructure, cutting off roads and forcing families to leave their homes.

In Deir al-Zor, the floods damaged roads and telecommunications infrastructure, disrupting transport and communications, state news agency SANA reported. Heavy rainfall also caused seven culverts to collapse, cutting off access to several areas.

Authorities suspended classes in Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir al-Zor on Thursday, while forecasters warned unsettled weather could continue into Saturday.
