STORYLINE:

A funeral for 54 Palestinians whose remains were returned by Israel under a ceasefire agreement was held in Khan Yunis in Gaza Strip on Wednesday, with hundreds gathering to commemorate the deceased prisoners.

Mourners carried Palestinian flags and chanted prayers as the bodies, many wrapped in shrouds, were laid to rest. Most of the bodies were unidentified at the time of the funeral.

"All unidentified bodies across the Gaza Strip will be recovered and brought to this cemetery. In the coming days, according to agreements between us and the Red Cross, a specialized laboratory will be established for the search and detection of bodies as well as to analyze their DNA, with the hope that their families can identify them in the coming days," local official Ziad Obeid told China Global Television Network (CGTN) stringer.
