Caracas (Venezuela)

STORY: Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro welcomed a march celebrating Student Day at the Miraflores presidential palace on Friday (November 21), calling on young people in his country to connect with student movements in the United States to fight the threats of war targeting his country.

Maduro danced to a musical remix of his own words during the event, amid heightened tensions between Caracas and the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump following a recent U.S. military buildup in the Caribbean.

Maduro has repeatedly accused Washington of seeking to overthrow him, while the United States has tightened sanctions and increased its military presence in the region. Next Monday (November 24), the United States will officially designate the Cartel de los Soles—a drug trafficking network whose existence is unproven and which Washington alleges is led by Maduro and the Venezuelan military—as a foreign terrorist organization. -
