S005-PERU DECLARACIONES DINA BOLUARTE
STORY: Former Peruvian President Dina Boluarte said on Friday (October 10) she has no intention of leaving the country, dismissing media reports that she had gone missing or sought asylum following her removal from office by Congress.
"Yesterday and today, the media reported that I was missing or that I had sought asylum. None of this is true. I am at home," Boluarte told reporters outside her residence. "Leaving the country has never crossed my mind, nor is it aligned with my patriotic sentiment."
Congress voted at midnight on Friday to remove the deeply unpopular leader for "moral incapacity" after mounting public anger over a surge in crime that has seen extortion and murders skyrocket.
Public outrage reached a boiling point on Wednesday (October 8) when one of Peru's most popular cumbia bands was attacked mid-concert at a venue owned by the Peruvian army, prompting Congress to introduce multiple impeachment motions the following day.
Outside the Palace of Justice on Friday, relatives of those killed during the 2023 mass protests against Boluarte's government demanded her prosecution.

We demand that she be banned from leaving the country, that she be put in jail, and that investigations into the murders be initiated."
