An eyewitness captured footage on Saturday (October 3) of emergency crews heading towards the scene after a car drove into a crowd in the Australian city of Newcastle.

Reuters was able to confirm the location and date of the footage from metadata in the original file. Traffic lights, signboards and the road layout also matched archive imagery of the area.

The driver was arrested at the scene in Newcastle, about 110 km (68 miles) north of the New South Wales state capital, Sydney.

Police said the car had been driven into a crowd, injuring 10 people, adding that initial indications suggested the incident was not terrorism-related.

Fans had lined local streets to farewell the Newcastle Knights rugby league team, due to compete in the country's National Rugby League grand final in Sydney on Sunday, when the incident occurred.
