STORY: Caracas residents gathered outside their homes early on Saturday (January 3), after multiple explosions rocked Venezuela's capital and columns of black smoke and aircraft were seen, according to Reuters witnesses.

A power outage affected the southern area of the city, near a major military base, witnesses said.

The cause and precise locations of the disturbances were not immediately clear. Videos circulating on social media showed multiple explosions across Caracas. Reuters could not immediately verify the videos.
