STORY: Peruvian authorities destroyed more than 9.3 tons of seized drugs on Friday (August 21), in what the Interior Ministry called its fifth incineration operation of 2026.

The haul included 4,519 kilograms (9,961 lbs) of marijuana, 3,465 kilograms (7,639 lbs) of cocaine and 760 kilograms (1,676 lbs) of cocaine base, among other narcotics seized by the National Police in anti-trafficking raids.

Footage showed Deputy Minister of Internal Order Cesar Jordan Brignole supervising the incineration of drugs in Lima. Experts were seen inspecting the drugs before workers loaded the bags into incineration furnaces.

Brignole said the destruction strikes directly at criminal organizations by cutting off profits that finance illegal activities.
