S002-EEUU PROTESTAS ALASKA ENCUENTRO TRUMP Y PUTIN
STORY: Protesters in Anchorage, Alaska said they were not surprised that no deal to resolve or pause Moscow's war in Ukraine was reached between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the summit on Friday (August 15).
During a brief appearance before the media following the nearly three-hour meeting in Alaska, the two leaders said they had made progress on unspecified issues and described the talks as productive. But they offered no details and took no questions, with the normally loquacious Trump ignoring shouted questions from reporters.
The talks did not initially appear to have produced meaningful steps toward a ceasefire in the deadliest conflict in Europe in 80 years - or toward a subsequent meeting between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, both goals Trump had set ahead of the summit.
In downtown, protesters gathered for short speeches and a brief march to cap off the week.

"That's nothing new. We didn't expect to see anything come of this meeting, other than the two got together for the first time in four years, so maybe if these two people which we don't care much for either, maybe some diplomacy is coming about? You can hope. You can hope for peace and you can hope for diplomacy."

"It has been a waste of time and of taxpayer money. Here in Alaska, we need money for health, for housing people. We need the money for the children and the schools, and we are wasting huge amount of money in bringing two convicted felons, and a criminal of war to Alaska for nothing. Nothing. I'm upset. I'm mad. And we shouldn't be holding these meetings that lay no results. This has been ridiculous and a waste of time."

"Well obviously they weren't going to be able to make a deal without Zelenskiy being there. And I think one of the reasons he wasn't invited is I don't personally feel that Trump or Putin are really interested in making a deal to begin with. I think they're just letting the world think they're interested in making a deal. I think Russia is more or less trying to cause more ceasefires and trying to grind Ukraine down so that they can take over."
