S002-EEUU ATRACO TIENDA POKEMON
STORY: Surveillance footage showed armed robbers packing up merchandise inside a Pokémon card store in New York City earlier this week, as terrified visitors and employees looked on during the brazen burglary.
The incident occurred on Wednesday (January 14) at The Poke Court, which said a card-decorating community event with over 40 attendees was underway in the store as the crime unfolded.
“We love Pokémon, but no card is worth losing lives over,” the retailer said in a statement posted on Instagram on Friday (January 16).
WABC, the local ABC News affiliate, reported on Friday that police had yet to apprehend the suspects, who made off with more than $100,000 worth of merchandise.
Other Pokémon card stores across New York City have since stepped up security measures in the wake of the robbery, WABC said.
Reuters was able to verify the location of the video by The Poke Court store's interior design, which matched file imagery. The date when the video was filmed was verified by corroborating reports and confirmed by the source.
