Tolima (Colo,mbia)

Colombian president Gustavo Petro offered on Friday (October 3) to deploy the South American nation's military alongside U.S. forces if President Donald Trump sends troops to Gaza to support a peace plan.

Speaking before hundreds of supporters waving Colombian and Palestinian flags, Petro expressed agreement with Trump's peace plan, marking a shift from the Colombian leader who has been a fierce critic of the U.S. president.

He maintained his condemnation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's military actions in Gaza, which he described as genocide.

The Colombian president also criticized the detention of two Colombian women aboard the humanitarian flotilla Sumud intercepted in the Mediterranean, saying they were being denied water and food.

"The bombing must stop. I agree with Trump and I told him if you need to send the United States Army there, I'll also send Colombia's army, and we'll fight together. Pride cannot be raised as a flag when the flag of life comes first."

"Let's go together (to the Gaza Strip). We don't have to be enemies, but know this, for millennia to come our English-speaking neighbors, our Portuguese-speaking neighbors, our Spanish-speaking neighbors, our neighbors of so many ancestral languages, we look at each other as equals and not as masters and slaves."

"The United States government to this day is complicit in a genocide by Mr. Netanyahu, I'm not saying Israelis, I'm not saying Jews ever. I respect religion, their beliefs, that's what our constitution orders. But I don't respect Netanyahu killing babies with bombs that even contain Colombian coal. Today two Colombian women are held there, they're not given water, they're not given food. Maybe they'll come back quickly because they know they'll get into trouble with all of humanity if they continue to keep them captive."
