STORY: Jimmy Kimmel supporters gathered outside Disneyland in Anaheim on Friday (September 19) to protest ABC's decision to suspend his late-night show.

Kimmel's remarks about slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk had angered many, and the reaction reached a fever pitch on Wednesday (September 17), including death threats that raised concerns for the safety of Kimmel and his staff, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters.

His supporters say Kimmel said nothing wrong and blamed ABC and Disney for censorship, calling the decision to take him off the air an attack on freedom of speech.

Kimmel, who frequently lampoons Trump, said in his monolog that Kirk's allies were using the onstage murder of the 31-year-old activist last week to "score political points." Kimmel also mocked Trump for turning a question about his grief for Kirk into a cheerful promotion for his planned White House ballroom.

"This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend," Kimmel said. "This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish."

Kimmel has not publicly commented since his suspension, and the future of his show remains unclear.
