S001-ARGENTINA EXPLOSION ZONA INDUSTRIAL
STORY: A fire at an industrial complex on the outskirts of Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, triggered a powerful explosion on Friday night (November 14), although no fatalities have been reported so far, local firefighters at the scene said.
Drone footage filmed in the early hours on Saturday (November 15) showed fires burning and large columns of smoke rising from buildings after the explosion.
The explosion occurred due to a fire in three buildings storing agrochemical products at a manufacturing complex in the town of Carlos Spegazzini, in Buenos Aires province, a Tristán Suárez Fire Department officer told Reuters as crews battled the blaze.
According to the chief officer of the Carlos Spegazzini station of the Tristán Suárez Fire Department, no fatalities had been reported so far, and units were working to bring the fire under control.
The mayor of Ezeiza, where Carlos Spegazzini is located, told local news channel TN that the origin of the fire had not yet been determined, but that only minor injuries had been reported in homes near the industrial park.
Meanwhile, operations were normal at Ezeiza Airport, Argentina’s main international air terminal, located about 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) from the accident site.
