National Guard troops arrived to aid police in Santa Ana as hundreds of protesters took to the streets.

Elsewhere, police in Austin, Texas dispersed and arrested protesters who had gathered in solidarity with those in Los Angeles.
Footage carried by local U.S. broadcasters showed police firing tear gas canisters at protesters and detaining some people.

“Well they arrested a couple people and then started throwing mace at us, they started spraying people with mace, eventually they threw about 10 tear gas canisters, flooding the whole street with tear gas. They just became very aggressive. We were not being aggressive, and then they just got aggressive. When they decided it was over, they just pushed us and used a lot of force.”

Eyewitness video showed demonstrators scuffling with police officers in Austin.
Brandon Farmahini's footage showed at least two protesters being restrained by police officers, before Farmahini himself began choking on tear gas.

Protesters marched through downtown Los Angeles toward the courthouse where labour leader David Huerta was being held.
Huerta, the president of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California, was injured and detained by ICE at an unspecified location, according to an SEIU statement.
The union said Huerta was arrested "while exercising his First Amendment right to observe and document law enforcement activity."

A convoy of buses was seen departing a U.S. military base in southern California late on Monday as the Trump administration ordered Marines into Los Angeles to quell the protests
The buses departed from the base in Twentynine Palms, according to ABC, where some 700 Marines were based.
Reuters could not independently verify whether the buses seen in the footage were carrying Marines.
