Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday (September 29) that Israel had killed more than 100 militants in Gaza in recent weeks and warned against attacks as the country heads towards elections.

Speaking at the Tel Nof Airbase, Netanyahu said Israel was operating across multiple fronts and had recently killed the Hamas commander in the northern Gaza Strip and a militant Israel accused of abducting hostages Noa Argamani and Avinatan Or.

He said there was pressure on Israel to withdraw and give up what he described as gains achieved by Israeli forces, but said he would not allow that to happen.

Israel will hold a national election on October 27, its first vote since the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack that shook the country and plunged the Middle East into turmoil, as Israel went to war in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran.

The election could determine whether Netanyahu remains in power after one of the most consequential periods in Israel’s history, or is defeated by centrist rivals promising to usher in a new era.

"I am here at the Air Force base with our heroic pilots and our wonderful ground crews. We are operating constantly across all fronts: the day before yesterday, we eliminated the despicable terrorist who abducted Noa Argamani and Avinatan Or. We brought them back; we eliminated him. Last night, we eliminated the Hamas brigade commander in the northern Strip. He has joined his predecessors—whom we also eliminated.

In total, over the past few weeks, we have eliminated more than 100 terrorists—and that is just in Gaza. Of course, we are operating in Lebanon as well; you remember what we did to the Ali Taher ridge.

There have been tremendous achievements, but there is also immense pressure—pressure to withdraw, to give up the great gains secured through the heroism of our fighters. I am not letting that happen, and I will not let it happen."
