M078-TURQUIA TIROTEO ESCUELA
Surveillance footage showed a teenage shooter entering a school in southeastern Turkey on Tuesday (April 14), in an assault that wounded 16 people, including teachers and students.
The assailant, who was born in 2007, later shot himself when cornered by police and died, according to Hasan Sildak, governor of Sanliurfa province, who added that the shooter started firing indiscriminately upon entering the school yard.
The footage from a camera inside the school showed people entering classrooms and closing their doors before the gunman entered the corridor. The man can be seen pausing as he takes a look at the shotgun in his hands before walking towards the people and raising the weapon.
Reuters verified the location from the school interiors seen in the video, which matched file imagery of the area. The date when the video was recorded was verified from official statements and a corroborating video showing a gunman wearing the same clothes and the same backpack. No older versions of the video were found posted online before Tuesday.
