M077-INDONESIA MOMENTO ACCIDENTE FERROVIARIO
A passenger captured on livestream the moment a commuter train collided with a long-distance train near the Indonesian capital Jakarta on Monday (April 27), killing 15 people.
Another 88 were injured, a senior minister said on Tuesday (April 28), as emergency teams completed work to rescue passengers trapped in the wreckage.
Reuters confirmed the location from railway signages, station layout and damaged carriages which matched file images and Reuters images from the scene. Coordinates of the railway station: -6.246855100697702, 107.01810622020159. Date of the video was verified by the original livestream record and authorities report. Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Indonesia's senior minister for infrastructure said that at least 15 people died in the train collision incident on Monday.
The collision happened late on Monday in Bekasi, just outside Jakarta, with a carriage reserved for women bearing the brunt of the crash.
All the victims were women and most of them had been pinned inside by crushed metal, said head of Indonesia's search and rescue agency. It had been a delicate process to extricate them from the mangled carriages, he added, but the evacuation had been completed.
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said the crash took place after a taxi stopped on a crossing near the Bekasi Timur station, state news agency Antara reported. The commuter train was held on the platform where it was then hit by the long-distance train, the report said.
