M074-ITALIA VUELOS RYANAIR TRAS AMENZAZA DE BOMBA
Two Ryanair flights arriving from Dublind and Lisbon were searched at Rome's Fiumicino airport on Tuesday (November 3) following bomb threats, a source from airport operator ADR said.
The flight form Dublin was escorted by the Italian Air Force until it landed at Italy's main airport.
The alert was cleared and the airport continued to operate as usual with no effects on other flights, according to the source.
The incident came as several bomb threats affecting commercial flights were reported across Europe and one of Warsaw's airports was temporarily forced to close, even though no devices were discovered.
The hoaxes bore all the hallmarks of a Russian hybrid attack, said Eric Schouten, the head of aviation security group Dyami.
European countries have faced an increase in hybrid threats to infrastructure since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, including incendiary parcels targeting air freight, explosive dorne attacs on cargo aircraft in Germany, and cyberattacks on supermarket fridges.
