Border battle expands as Thailand and Cambodia clash for second day

Eyewitness videos from Samraong, the capital of the Cambodian border province Oddar Meanchey, showed thick smoke covered the sky, while both sides blamed the other for starting renewed clashes.

A local villager in Thailand's northeastern Buriram province, Laongdao Chulsri, 34, and her family of 10 are among thousands of families living along the border area with Cambodia who have fled from their homes after fresh clashes between Thai and Cambodian troops reignited on Monday (December 8).

Cambodia’s defence ministry spokesperson, Maly Socheata, said on Tuesday that attacks by Cambodia on Thailand have been in self-defence and on Thai military targets, as clashes escalated along their border.
