Tel Aviv (Israel)

STORY: Israel received the remains of what is believed to be a deceased hostage, from Hamas in Gaza, via the Red Cross, said the Palestinian militant group on Tuesday (December 2).

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement that its forces in Gaza have received what it described as "findings" that would be taken into Israel for forensic testing.

Footage from Tel Aviv showed a convoy carrying the remains arriving at the country's National Forensics Institute for identification.

The two remaining deceased hostages are Israeli police officer Ran Gvili and Thai national Sudthisak Rinthalak, both kidnapped during Hamas' October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.

If confirmed as a hostage, this would leave the remains of one hostage still held in Gaza.

Under the October deal between Hamas and Israel after two years of devastating war, Hamas freed all 20 surviving hostages held in Gaza in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and wartime detainees held by Israel.
