People sought relief from extreme heat at beaches and fountains across the Balkans on Tuesday (June 30) as a record-breaking heatwave continued to grip the region.

In Albania, beachgoers cooled off in the water and sought shade under umbrellas as temperatures soared.

"Now it's very hot. Very, very hot. In fact, the whole of June has been extremely hot," local resident Gjyste Mandreu said. "I don't know how we will manage during the summer. Even in the evening, it's 37 degrees Celsius."

In Serbia’s capital, Belgrade, people gathered around fountain to drink water and cool down.

The heatwave, which began on June 20, set records for early summer and the blistering conditions disrupted power generation, damaged infrastructure and overwhelmed healthcare systems.
