1. PROTESTERS TRYING TO GAIN ACCESS TO A BUILDING, FORCING THE GATE OPEN

Another eyewitness video released on January 1 showed an overturned car and several fires, as protesters chanted outside a police station in Azna, Lorestan Province.

Protesters were heard chanting "This is the last battle. Pahlavi will return" in reference to Reza Pahlavi, the son of the former shah of Iran. Pahlavi has lived in exile for more than four decades, ever since his father, the U.S.-backed shah, was overthrown in the 1979 Islamic Revolution that brought to power the clerical regime led by the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Reuters was able to confirm the location as next to a police station in Azna, from buildings, road layout and street lights which matched satellite imagery of the area.

Verified by:

- Buildings, road layout and street lights matched satellite imagery close to police station

- Exact date not verified but Fars news agency reported rioters entered the police headquarters around 1800 (local time) on January 1

- Several corroborating videos uploaded on January 1 also show similar scenes at that location

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on January 3 vowed not to yield after U.S. President Trump threatened to come to the aid of protesters, as rights groups reported a sharp rise in arrests following days of unrest sparked by soaring inflation.

Speaking in a recorded appearance on television, Khamenei said the Islamic Republic "will not yield to the enemy" and said rioters should be "put in their place."

TRUMP: "Look, we're watching it very closely. If they start killing people like they have in the past, I think they're going to get hit very hard by the United States."

A large crowd protesting against the government took to the streets of Abdanan, a city in Iran's western Ilam province, social media footage released on January 6 showed.

Iran's leaders have been facing demonstrations across the country that have evolved from complaints about economic hardship to calls for the fall of the entrenched clerical establishment.

The flow of information from the Islamic Republic has been hampered by an internet blackout since January 8.

After days of internet blackout, some restrictions were lifted on January 12, allowing media organisations to finally transmit footage of the anti-government demonstrators, which were filmed four days earlier.

The videos from capital Tehran showed protesters gathering near Hafte Tir Square as audio of continuous shootings was heard in the background.

The U.S.-based rights group HRANA said it had verified the deaths of 572 people. Reuters was unable to independently verify the tallies.

Iran has not given an official death toll, but blames the bloodshed on U.S. interference and what it calls Israeli- and U.S.-backed terrorists.
