STORY: Video released by Russia's defence ministry on Monday (November 24) showed smoke rising over Pokrovsk and Russian soldiers walking through the Ukrainian city as reports said Russian troops were pushing forward in the transit hub.

Reuters was able to confirm the location of the video as Pokrovsk from the buildings, the road layout and the field layout, which matched file and satellite imagery of the area. The date when the video was recorded could not be verified independently.

The RIA state news agency cited the defence ministry as saying that Russian forces had captured two districts in the city on Monday.

Reuters could not independently verify the battlefield reports.

Ukrainian commanders say they do not have enough soldiers to prevent small, persistent incursions of Pokrovsk.
