Poland capped fuel prices on Tuesday, introducing maximum retail prices and temporarily cut fuel taxes,
as it starts to apply caps on fuel prices which are set daily.
"Starting at midnight, a maximum price will be in effect, along with a precise maximum price mechanism, tax cuts, VAT reductions, and excise tax reductions to a minimum level, ensuring this support is guaranteed and drivers can feel it," Energy Minister Milosz Motyka said on Tuesday (March 31) at a petrol station in Warsaw.
The maximum price for diesel was set at 7.60 zlotys per litre, while petrol Pb95 was capped at 6.16 zlotys and Pb98 at 6.76 zlotys.
Governments across Europe are scrambling to soften the Iran war's impact on fuel costs, with countries including Romania and Hungary already moving to cap prices.
