A Peruvian regional candidate was killed on Saturday (September 19) during a campaign event in northern Peru.

Susy Aponte Polo, also known as "China Polo," was campaigning in Caraz, Ancash, ahead of the October 4 regional and municipal elections when she was shot dead.

The mother of four was laid to rest on Monday (September 21) in Lima.

Peru's Ministry of Interior said two Venezuelan men had been arrested as suspects while the investigation continues.

The date was verified by original file metadata and a statement from the Ministry of Interior of Peru confirmed the death of the candidate for governor Susy Ysabel Aponte Polo de Tello.
