STORY: President Donald Trump said on Monday (December 15) actor-director and political activist Rob Reiner was "deranged", following criticism of a social media post from the U.S. leader.

Trump criticised Reiner, a longtime political opponent, writing that the director had an "incurable affliction" tied to his opposition to Trump, while adding at the end of the post, "May Rob and Michele rest in peace."

Reiner and his wife were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday (December 14), and police are investigating the circumstances as an apparent homicide, authorities said.

Reiner's wife, Michele, was at one time a photographer who captured the image of Donald Trump that appears on the cover of his book "Trump: The Art of the Deal."

JOURNALIST: "Mr. President, a number of Republicans have denounced your statement on Truth Social after the murder of Rob Reiner. Do you stand by that post?"

TRUMP: "Well, I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump was concerned. And he said, he, like he knew it was false. In fact, it's the exact opposite that I was a friend of Russia, controlled by Russia. You know, the Russia hoax, He was one of the people behind it. I think he hurt himself in career wise. He became like a deranged person, Trump Derangement syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all in any way, shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country."
