US President Donald Trump said New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani had “great potential” as he left Gracie Mansion following their meeting on Monday (September 21).

“I certainly hope he will be a great mayor,” Trump said. “You have to understand, I want what's good for New York, I want what's good for the country.”

Mamdani walked Trump out of the mayor's official residence before the president's motorcade departed.

Trump was visiting New York for the United Nations General Assembly, with an address to the world body scheduled for Tuesday (September 22) and meetings with other leaders planned during his two-day stay in the city.
