Lebanon's Finance Minister Yassine Jaber said the ongoing war between Israel and Lebanese armed group Hezbollah is expected to shrink Lebanon's economy by at least 7% this year and could cost the country an estimated $20 billion.

Lebanon, already suffering from a 2019 financial meltdown and a 2024 war between Hezbollah and Israel, would see an economic contraction of between 7% and 10% in 2026, Jaber said.

"There's an entire area being wiped out of existence. So for that reason, I definitely think we could reach 20 billion (U.S. dollars) altogether, between direct and indirect (losses). And certainly, with a war like this and under these conditions - which, as I said, have accumulated since (20)24 until today, the economy has definitely been greatly affected.”
