M007-ARGENTINA DISCURSO MILEI
STORY: Argentinian President Javier Milei on Monday (October 6) called for the release of hostages still held by Hamas ahead of the anniversary of the group's attack on southern Israel two years ago.
At a political rally ahead of elections this month and to present his new book on the first two years of his administration, he also reaffirmed a pledge to make Argentina "the freest country in the world".
Thousands of his supporters waved flags, balloons, and purple flares, and some carried a lion figure as they chanted in support. Police intervened as opposition demonstrators hurled insults.
The event, styled as both a book launch and a political rally, aimed to revitalise Milei’s campaign amid internal coalition strains following ally José Luis Espert’s withdrawal from this month's election due to a corruption scandal.
