A mother and her 18-day-old baby were rescued on Friday (June 26) from beneath the rubble of a collapsed building 32 hours after Venezuela was struck by two devastating earthquakes. Reuters could not independently verify the location of the video, but multiple sources and media outlets identified it as La Guaira, Venezuela. Reuters also could not verify the date, though no earlier version of the footage was found online before June 26, and the date aligns with reports of a rescue in the area. "I'm a nobody. I'm just a young man who spent five days trapped beneath a building. But I'm here today, and I'm alive, thanks to my God. He is the only one who got me out of there, and sent his angels. Who are his angels? The people who worked tirelessly on my rescue. The people who cared about how I was doing. The people who were there when I came out, who shouted my name when they saw me emerge. As far as I know, I was just informed that I was the only person in that building who was found alive."

Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, said on Monday (June 29) that teams from 30 nations have joined the rescue efforts, Rodriguez said, as experts were deployed in La Guaira, Miranda and Caracas to assess the habitability of homes damaged by the quakes. The same day, National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez reported that an aftershock felt in Caracas on Monday morning caused no damages, and that electricity service in the affected state of La Guaira had been fully restored. Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said on Monday (June 29) in a video released on X that she had planned to travel from Panama to Venezuela, but accused the Venezuelan government of closing the country's airspace to try to stop her return. Machado accused the government of trying to block not only her return, but also the work of Venezuelans distributing food and medicine, international rescue teams stranded at airports, and journalists seeking information. In December, she secretly fled Venezuela by boat to travel to Oslo to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, which she later handed to U.S. President Donald Trump. Machado's desire to return to Venezuela has caused friction in Washington, where she has been asked to delay her return. (3663-VENEZUELA-QUAKE/MACHADO)

24. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) VENEZUELAN OPPOSITION LEADER, MARIA CORINA MACHADO, SAYING:
"On June 24, my return to Venezuela became urgent, so we could face this catastrophe together, as a family does when one of its members is suffering. The regime wants to block my return to Venezuela, and the return of many compatriots who want to go and help. It has also tried to block the generous work of thousands of citizens handing out food and medicine, blocked the travel of international rescue teams stranded at airports, and sought to obstruct the work of journalists who are looking for the truth. Blocking and manipulating information in situations like this creates even more victims."
