STORY: Emergency responders rushed to the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv after Russian forces launched the year’s most intense wave of missile attacks on Ukraine early on Tuesday (January 13), killing four people and injuring several others.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said the Kharkiv attack hit a postal terminal, destroying buildings and sparking multiple fires across about 500 square meters. Rescuers pulled 30 people to safety, including two from under rubble, it said.

Emergency responders were filmed arriving at the scene near the Nova Poshta postal terminal while employees of the company huddled near a heater inside an underground shelter.

Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov said four people had died in a strike on the outskirts of the city, 30 km (18 miles) from the border with Russia and also a frequent Moscow target. Syniehubov said six people were injured.

"After half an hour, I searched for people still left at the terminal and I found a number of injured people in the bunker over there. I found one of my workers injured under the rubble, he had a head injury. Another one was also under the rubble, he made a noise, and I told my boss that there were people stuck. The one stuck said that a dead person was lying next to him... There were two injured, one I saw and the other one I heard."
