A Russian drone attack on Monday (October 19) killed six people, including three children, in a park in a settlement in Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy said.

He called the attack an act of "absolute bestiality." He said a girl just over one year old who was in a stroller was killed, and her mother, who later died in hospital, as well as an 11-year-old girl. Fourteen people were injured, including six children.

Reuters footage from the scene showed a damaged cafe terrace, a children's trampoline torn apart by the blast and blood-stained tables and chairs.

Investigators examined victims and emergency crews removed bodies from the park. Police said the jet-powered drone struck the park's central area near a fountain and cafe, a popular gathering place for local residents and families. Witnesses cited by police said the drone circled above the settlement before carrying out the attack.

"Today, on October 19, at around 4:30 p.m., a jet-powered Shahed drone struck a park area in the settlement of Nova Vodolaha. The impact was near a fountain and a cafe terrace. At that time, mothers with children were spending time there."
