M003-EEUU TRUMP QUIERE CAMBIAR NOMBRE OCEANO
US President Donald Trump on Monday (October 26) repeated his desire to rename the Atlantic Ocean the “American Ocean” but promised he would not rename the Mississippi River.
Trump first raised the idea last week at a rally in South Carolina, where he said Google CEO Sundar Pichai had declined his request because oceans touch many countries. Trump said he would probably pass, then said the ocean would be called the American Ocean.
On Monday, Trump said the United States already had a lake and a gulf renamed and needed a river and an ocean. His remarks came a week before the November 3 midterm elections, with his approval rating at a record-low 31% in a Reuters/Ipsos poll released last week.
He signed an executive order on August 27 directing federal agencies to call Lake Ontario, which the United States shares with Canada, “Lake America”. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canadians would keep using the name Lake Ontario. Trump ordered the Gulf of Mexico renamed the Gulf of America in January 2025.

"But we did change the name of their [Canada's] little lake [Lake Ontario] to Lake America. So, we have a lake -- think of it -- we have a lake and we have a gulf. Now we need a river and an ocean. So I'm thinking about the Atlantic Ocean, we call it the American Ocean. I think Europe will be thrilled. And you know what they told me -- and I won't do this, I promise -- the Mississippi River, I'm not changing the name of the Mississippi. I won't. Promise, promise. I'm not gonna change it. Boy, that would be terrible."
