A gunman ambushed and shot dead two firefighters responding to a forest fire in northern Idaho on Sunday (June 29), wounding one other during an hours-long incident before the suspect was found dead, the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said.

And we honed in on that cell phone and we saw that there was a male, appeared to be deceased with a weapon nearby. So we have currently one dead shooter, based on the preliminary investigation that was being conducted.”

“We did lose a Coeur d'Alene firefighter, and we did lose a firefighter from the Kootenai County Fire and Rescue. He is fighting for his life, but is in stable condition.”
