L659-TURQUIA INCENDIOS

30 de junio 2025 - 18:06

team from the aid organisation IHH rescued an elderly man in western Turkey on Sunday (June 29) as flames from a wildfire reached the man's residence.

One rescuer carried the man's wheelchair while the other carried the man up the stairs and away from the raging fire. They then pushed him away from the area, distancing him from the flames that engulfed his home.

Wildfires in the Turkish Aegean coastal province of Izmir raged for a second day, fanned by strong winds, Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli said.

Several villages and neighbourhoods were evacuated, while 21 affected people had been discharged from hospital after treatment, the minister said.

Some houses caught fire as the wildfire reached them and were heavily damaged.

Turkey's coastal regions have in recent years been ravaged by wildfires, as summers have become hotter and drier, which scientists say is a result of human-induced climate change.
