STORY: Video released by the mayor of Kharkiv on Monday (August 18) showed explosions in a residential area of the Ukrainian city after a Russian air attack overnight.
Reuters witnesses at the scene saw medics attending to residents, as well as rescuers searching for survivors under the rubble and inspecting damage to residential buildings.
Reuters verified the location of the video by matching buildings to satellite and file imagery.
The date of the video was verified by Reuters aftermath footage from the scene filmed on August 18.
Emergency services also said the strike took place on August 18.
Kharkiv, in northeastern Ukraine near the border with Russia, has been the target of regular Russian drone and missile attacks since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
