Israeli army spokesperson Effie Defrin said in a briefing on Monday (June 8) that the army struck a petrochemical plant near Mahshahr in Iran, during a wave of strikes on the country.

The Karun petrochemical plant near Iran's southwestern city of Bandar-e-Mahshahr was hit and parts of it damaged by an Israeli projectile, the deputy governor for security of the Khuzestan province said on Monday, according to Fars news.

Defrin described the strikes carried out by Iran on Israel on Sunday (June 7) night as a violation of the ceasefire, and said that Iran is "defending its proxy, the Hezbollah terrorist organisation in Lebanon."

The army briefing included the screening of footage of fighter jets taking off and aerial footage showing strikes on a target.

Reuters was not able to verify the locations or dates when these videos were recorded.
