STORY: The EU has put in place "security and safety safeguards" for its citizens when it comes to the development and deployment of artificial intelligence in the European Union, said an EU spokes person on Monday (September 14).

"We have the AI act. It's fully enforced," said EU spokesperson Thomas Regnier during the daily briefing with the press. "We can say with quite some confidence that we are frontrunners," he added.

The comments came after Anthropic Chief Executive Dario Amodei published an essay over the weekend calling on AI companies to slow the pace at which they improve model capabilities and proposing stronger safeguards, including independent evaluators embedded within AI firms.
