L072-EEUU DIA DE LA MARMOTA
Renowned Pennsylvania weather forecaster, Punxsutawney Phil, emerged from his burrow on Groundhog's Day (February 2) to make is highly anticipated annual prediction, this year calling for six more weeks of winter.
According to legend, if the groundhog sees its shadow on February second, the community can expect six more weeks of winter. No shadow means an early spring is coming.
The United States' most famous Groundhog's Day celebration occurs on a hill known as Gobbler's Knob in the western Pennsylvania town of Punxsutawney. Scores gathered early on Monday for the event, filled with music, dancing and pyrotechnics. A cheer went up as hosts announced six more weeks of winter.
According to the Pennsylvania Groundhog Club, the organization tasked with caring for Phil and organizing the event, the tradition has its origins in Christian celebrations in Europe. In 1887, the club organized the first trek to Gobbler's Knob.
