French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk spoke briefly about Lebanon on Monday (April 20) as they walked through the historic centre of Gdansk during a visit for a meeting of their governments.

"It’s clear that the collapse of their sovereignty and territorial integrity could not be the solution," Macron said of Lebanon although the wider context of his comments was not clear.

A U.S.-mediated, 10-day ceasefire took effect on Thursday (April 16) largely halting the war between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah that spiralled out of the conflict between the United States and Iran, although it remains fragile.

Macron and Tusk also posed for photos with members of the public as they walked along a street that runs through Gdansk's medieval centre, before holding a meeting with members of their respective governments.
