Footage released on Saturday (November 15) by NATO shows a frigate sinking after a NATO submarine fired at it with a torpedo during a military exercise.

According to a social media post by the NATO Allied Joint Force Command Norfolk, which was written to accompany the video, the exercise – known as Aegir 25 – was carried out to “verify and demonstrate the striking power that the weapon and submarine represent”.

The NATO Allied Joint Force Command Norfolk said several vessels and units participated in the exercise, and identified the decommissioned frigate as KNM Trondheim.
