STORY: The White House kicked off the holiday season on Monday (December 1) by unveiling a display that included 75 wreaths, more than 50 Christmas trees, 25,000 feet of ribbon, and a painting of President Donald Trump holding up his fist moments after he was shot.

The theme for this year's decorations was 'Home Is Where The Heart Is' according to first lady Melania's Trump's office.

The painting of the president and a row of Christmas trees trimmed in burgundy ribbon flanked the entrance to the White House's Red Room where a tree festooned with blue butterflies honored the 'transformational experience' of being a part of the foster care community, one of the areas the first lady has focused on.

In the Blue Room, an 18-foot (5.5 meter) tree decorated with gold stars and ornaments representing each state - served as a tribute to Gold Star families. Gold Star families are the immediate relatives of military service members who were killed in the line of duty.

The first lady worked with designer Hervé Pierre to create the display which also included a replica of the White House with wreaths in every window.
