L065-HUNGRIA RP NUEVO PRIMER MINISTRO
Hungary's election winner, Peter Magyar, said on Monday (April 13) that his new government would use the very strong mandate it received to implement anti-corruption measures and strengthen Hungary's position in the EU.
Magyar said that under his leadership, Hungary would no longer interfere in internal affairs of other countries, but rather cooperate with Europe: "Hungary will be there, it will be a constructive partner, as Europe is in trouble in many respects, as a war is still ongoing next to us."
Sunday's (April 12) election results have caused a political earthquake, after a landslide victory for the center-right opposition reverberated everywhere from Washington to Kyiv, sending local markets surging and turning Budapest into a party zone.
The ballot's implications also stretched far beyond the borders of the landlocked country of under 10 million people, as outgoing nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban was a key ally of both U.S. President Donald Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin, and had frustrated European efforts to aid war-torn Ukraine.
Supporters of Magyar's Tisza party hope he can unblock billions in European Union funds, frozen over concerns about democratic standards, bolster the rule of law and hold those they accused of wrongdoing under the previous government to account thanks to his two-thirds supermajority.

"And unlike before, it will not interfere in the internal affairs of any country, neither in the internal affairs of the Balkan countries, nor Spain, nor France, neither with money nor in any other way, nor in the internal affairs of Slovakia. We respectfully ask the same from all foreign countries: to view Hungary as a free, independent, sovereign, and at the same time, European country. A country that is a member of the two most important and largest alliance systems: the European Union and NATO."

"The secret, it's probably that politics is about people, and many politicians have forgotten this. I see that in many places in Europe, government crisis follows government crisis, that mainstream politicians are terrified that extremist forces are gaining ground, and the party system seems to be collapsing in many European countries. I can send a message from here with good intentions and kindness, because Western European politicians have personally asked me what the secret is: you have to be with the people, you have to put in the work, whether you like it or not."

"Hungary will be there, it will be a constructive partner, as Europe is in trouble in many respects, as a war is still ongoing next to us. For more than four years, Europe has been in a very difficult economic and other situation, it has lost pace, and that's putting it mildly. Europe has huge competitiveness and social problems. We are here and we are trying to help. I myself am happy to help speed up this process, not to further broaden it, but rather to try to streamline the existing structure and make decisions more easily."
