L063-MEDITERRANEO ISRAEL INTERCEPTA UNO DE LOS BARCOS DE LA FLOTILLA
A member of a flotilla of aid ships bound for Gaza said on Monday (May 18) that Israeli forces had boarded at least 10 of their vessels.
Spanish activist Javier Aparicio - who was detained late April during Israel's previous interception of the flotilla and later released - was sailing in the 'Themis' boat with a San Marino flag.
Aparicio described that members of other boats in the Flotilla were being taken to vessels "very similar to the floating prison where we were put on two weeks ago."
Press representatives from the Global Sumud Flotilla told Reuters that the boat on which Aparicio was travelling was intercepted by Israel minutes after the interview.
In video footage shared by the organization, activists were seen with their hands in the air, after discarding cell phones as they are boarded.
Earlier on Monday, Israel's foreign ministry had said on X that it "will not allow any breach of the lawful naval blockade on Gaza".
Ships from the Global Sumud Flotilla had set sail for a third time on Thursday (May 14) from southern Turkey, after earlier attempts to deliver aid to Gaza were intercepted by Israel in international waters.
Live video showed military vessels approaching the vessels on Monday.

"A little over three hours ago, the Israeli occupation forces started illegally boarding and abducting Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian mission on its way to Gaza, carrying only civilians and humanitarian aid. Once again, the regime of Israel is pretending to be above all sorts of international laws and conscience, and committing their crimes in plain sight because they know the level of impunity they have achieved is at a top level."
