King Haakon alongside Queen Mette-Marit, his mother Queen Sonja and his children on Monday (August 31) accompanied the coffin of King Harald to the Royal Chapel where he will be laying in state until his funeral.

The coffin was taken from the Red Salon to the Palace Chapel where members of the public will be able to make a final farewell to the King from Tuesday (September 1) afternoon until his funeral on September 9.

King Haakon and Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra led the procession, accompanying the coffin for part of the route.

Queen Mette-Marit, who has been on sick leave since undergoing a successful lung transplant, and her son from a previous relationship, Marius Borg Hoiby, also took part in the procession.

Hoiby was in June found guilty of rape and domestic violence and sentenced to four years in prison.

Palace staff formed an honour guard along the route and joined the procession after the coffin had passed.
