L058-IRAN BARCOS ESPERANDO PASAR ESTRECHO ORMUZ

Shipping executives meeting in Athens on Monday (June 1) said that any peace deal worked out between the United States and Iran would need to offer clear rules allowing vessels to resume normal business via the Strait of Hormuz.

While there have been a few tankers to have sailed through the strait in recent days, traffic remains a fraction of the average daily sailings of at least 125 ships before the US-Israeli war on Iran began on Feb.28.

Iran and the U.S. trading strikes over the weekend has dimmed hopes that the U.S. and Iran could soon announce an extension to their ceasefire.

Oil prices, which have risen sharply since the start of the war, gained more than 3% on Monday after the strikes. Tensions were also fuelled by Israel ordering troops to move further into Lebanon against Tehran-backed Hezbollah, in a conflict that was reignited by the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran.

“No one can really predict what's coming. The fundamentals show that we will probably have some positive couple of years. Of course, all of this is very much driven by geopolitics and we don't know when and how and when the Straits of Hormuz will open, for example. This is something, as Jerry said, that should influence the market quite a lot. And with the right pricing of oil, it could generate a whole new stream of demand”.
