L058-FRANCIA FANS Y AMIGOS RECUERDAN A BB
STORY: Fans and friends laid flowers and candles around Saint-Tropez on Monday (December 29) to pay homage to legendary French actress Brigitte Bardot, who died on Sunday (December 28) at the age of 91.
People laid tributes at the foot of Bardot's statue in the southern French city's centre. Some came with their dogs, an homage to Bardot's prominent work as an activist for animal rights.
"She represents women's freedom, voila. She was a courageous and determined woman who has never given up," tourist Nathalie Christophe said.
Flowers also decorated metal barriers at the security perimeter around La Madrague, Bardot's residence. One of her friends, Philippe Volmier, who has known her for more than 30 years, came to the site with his dog Jaguar.
"I've had anecdotes, when we were walking our dogs on the beach, one time, she fell into the water with her dog, I had to pick her out, she couldn't stand up anymore," Volmier reminisced, laughing fondly.
"She was lovely, lovely, there's no other word. Yes, we will really miss her," he added.
