L051-GAZA HERIDOS HOSPITAL
A video obtained by Reuters on Monday (September 29) showed rooms and beds strewn with debris at Al‑Helo Hospital in Gaza City.
Palestinian health officials say tanks are surrounding the area near the hospital where at least 12 babies are in incubators. Medics said the site was shelled.
The U.N. children's charity called on Monday for an immediate evacuation to save at least 25 ill or premature babies in incubators in Gaza City as Israel steps up its ground offensive, shelling a hospital overnight housing around half of them.
"It is time to move them because Gaza City again has become a combat zone, but moving them where? There is no safe place for them to go," UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Pires told Reuters.
Israeli authorities did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
It was not immediately clear which hospitals could take the babies, with many damaged, overcrowded and facing shortages.
From nearby Al‑Shifa Hospital, emergency department head Dr. Moataz Harara said staff are "providing only minimum service" to keep patients alive and urged that hospitals be protected from attacks.
Four health facilities in Gaza City have shut down so far this month, according to the World Health Organization.

There is no safe place for them to go and moreover the health infrastructure that is required to keep them alive is no longer present in other...some of the few remaining hospitals or clinics in Gaza, so they reached a point where the only thing that can save them is a ceasefire, It's when the guns go silent and they don’t need to be relocated from the areas where they can be kept in incubators.”
