L045-IRAN MINISTRO EXTERIORES LIBANO DENTRO DE ACUERDO

15 de junio 2026 - 17:37

Teherán, Irán

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, said on Monday (June 15), “Lebanon and the end of the war in Lebanon are an inseparable part of the agreement to end the war” with the U.S., adding that the draft memorandum mentions Lebanon thrice as it calls for an end to war on all fronts, as well as the respect of its sovereignty and its territorial integrity.

The U.S. and Iran said they had agreed terms to end their war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, news that brought relief to markets although the pact may hinge on an end to hostilities in Lebanon and defers talks on Tehran's nuclear program.

While still a framework, the deal marked the biggest breakthrough towards resolving the conflict that has killed thousands and upended energy markets since it began with joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran in February.

The memorandum of understanding is scheduled to be officially signed on Friday (June 19) in Switzerland.

Iran's deputy foreign minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, said a more expansive agreement would be negotiated during a 60-day ceasefire period, including sanctions relief for Iran. The fate of Iran's nuclear program, another thorny issue, will also be addressed in those later talks, sources previously told Reuters.

Before the deal was announced, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that, under the terms of the draft, the U.S. would agree to release $25 billion of frozen Iranian assets.

"Over the past 24 hours we have witnessed major developments. The finalization of a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States to bring an end to the war imposed on Iran by the United States and the Zionist regime across all fronts, including Lebanon, was a highly significant development. It was the product of the steadfastness and legendary resistance of the Iranian people in the face of aggression and crimes committed by two rogue actors equipped with every material capability.”

“The release of Iran’s frozen or restricted assets, alongside the issue of compensation for damages, are two important economic matters. The American side is committed to taking action in both cases. The issue of making Iran’s frozen funds accessible is being considered as Iran’s right, not as something where the American side is supposed to give money to Iran. This issue is very important, and necessary measures have been considered in this regard.”
